Sophia Pergola was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Torrington got a massive performance out of Julia Rinaldi, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Rinaldi has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Lilah Boulli was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one double.
Torrington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, St. Paul Catholic entered their tilt with Oxford on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Wolverines.
Harley Emmendorfer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits.
On the hitting side, Lauren Kozlak was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily McCulloch, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
St. Paul Catholic pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Torrington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-10.
Torrington might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from St. Paul Catholic in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
