4A Region I District 2 recap October 8, 2013
Del Valle extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region I District 2 this week by beating San Elizario, 62-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Conquistadores.
Horizon moved up to 724 from 818 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Scorpions climbed the ranks as a result of besting Parkland 47-17.
Erik Camacho had a great week catching the football as Horizon defeated the Matadors. He caught 9 passes for 229 yards.
Joseph Fresquez threw for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 14-30 with 1 interception.
Camacho was the best wideout in the league this week as David Telas' team beat Parkland. Camacho racked up 9 receptions for 229 yards. Jorge Ramirez helped Horizon's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 44 yards.
6-foot-5 quarterback Steven Montez of Del Valle is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,117. He has also thrown 19 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Camacho. The Horizon star has 22 catches for 523 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 2 this week will be when Eastlake takes on Ysleta. At the moment, the Falcons are in first, while the Indians are in fourth.
Jesse Perales' team was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Conquistadores defeated the Eagles 62-7.
