The Mt. Rainier Rams will square off against the Stadium Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Rainier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Mt. Rainier proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Kentwood, sneaking past 9-8. The victory was familiar territory for the Rams, who have now won three contests in a row.
The team relied heavily on Kadence Avila Petitt, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and four RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mt. Rainier kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Stadium never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Kentwood on Wednesday. They blew past the Conquerors 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Lily Hart was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Stadium got a massive performance out of Kate Erickson, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Ella Enciso was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Mt. Rainier's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Stadium, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Mt. Rainier's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Rams have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Stadium, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mt. Rainier continue to outrun the ball?
Mt. Rainier might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Stadium when the teams last played back in March. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
