The Richfield Wildcats will head out to face off against the Providence Hall Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Richfield came out on top against Ogden on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Wildcats took their game against the Tigers 9-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Garrett Wayman made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Wayman was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jess Curtis and Malik Fautin did most of the damage at the plate: Curtis got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Fautin went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Fautin has become a key player for Richfield: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-14 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Providence Hall had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 13-10. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like Richfield, Providence Hall also got a great game from a two-way player: Andrew Taylor. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Taylor has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Tatem Bowen was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. McCade Edwards was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Providence Hall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Providence Hall's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Richfield, their record is now 8-16.
Providence Hall's pitching crew better be locked in on Monday. Richfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. It's a different story for Providence Hall, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Richfield in the park?
Richfield took their victory against Providence Hall in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
