Palo Alto has gone a perfect 3-0 against Castilleja recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Palo Alto has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Friday, Palo Alto didn't have quite enough to beat MacDonald and fell 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by just one run.
Kira Tzeng put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Kendall Butler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Kensie Pao was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Castilleja lost 19-5 to Mercy last Wednesday. The Gators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Castilleja saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raina Kapadia, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
Castilleja's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Palo Alto, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Palo Alto has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Castilleja struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Palo Alto's way against Castilleja when the teams last played back in March of 2017, as Palo Alto made off with an 18-1 victory. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
