In what's become a running theme this season, the Sunnyside Blue Devils gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They blew past Marana 72-41 at home. The victory was familiar territory for Sunnyside who now have three in a row.
Sunnyside was led to victory by Janae Pritchett and Ylena Gross. Pritchett scored 18 points along with two steals, while Gross scored 21 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gross has scored all season. Esabella Barajas was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Adrian Griffin and Malaysia Roebuck certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Griffin scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while Roebuck scored nine points along with nine rebounds. Roebuck has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tawnee Flores, who scored two points along with two steals.
Marana struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sunnyside pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Sunnyside pushed their record up to 20-3 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Marana, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which lines up perfectly with their 5-15 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunnyside will take on Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tucson High Magnet School will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Sunnyside is ranked 18th). As for Marana, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rincon/University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Rincon/University focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Thursday.
