Puckett put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They really took it to Pelahatchie for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-13 victory on the road. With Puckett ahead 28-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Puckett to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samuelle Gray, who rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also picked up 56 receiving yards. Gray was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Another player making a difference was JaVarius Fletcher, who rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Pisgah can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past McLaurin 53-14 at home. Pisgah pushed the score to 39-8 by the end of the third, a deficit McLaurin had no chance of recovering from.
Pisgah's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paxton Cottingham, who rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Cottingham hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Rusty McCollum was another key contributor, rushing for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory makes it two in a row for Puckett and bumps their season record up to 7-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28 points. As for Pisgah, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Puckett has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've been even better at 263.8 per game. It's looking like Thursday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Puckett took their victory against Pisgah when the teams last played back in September of 2022 by a conclusive 35-13. Will Puckett repeat their success, or does Pisgah have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
