The South Sumter Raiders had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Everything went their way against Vanguard as South Sumter made off with a 40-20 win. The result was nothing new for South Sumter, who have now won five contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Leading South Sumter to victory were Ja?kyrian Turner and Tyrese Keiler. Turner rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, while Keiler rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns. George Mullins got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
South Sumter's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Charlie Carneglia and Stanley Young who racked up four sacks between them.
Despite the loss, Vanguard still got an impressive performance from Fred Gaskin, who threw for 288 yards and a touchdown while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
South Sumter's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. As for Vanguard, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Sumter will take on Dunnellon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Dunnellon has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 222 points over their last five matchups. As for Vanguard, they will be playing at home against Tavares at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Tavares comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
