The Sherrard Tigers will head out to take on the Biggsville West Central Heat at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are still undefeated (Sherrard has six wins , while Biggsville West Central has three).
If Sherrard beats Biggsville West Central with nine runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Tigers put the hurt on Macomb with a sharp 9-3 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Tigers have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Makensie Westfall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tessa Driessens and Nadia Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Driessens went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Anderson scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave Driessens a new career-high. Makenzy Moran also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Sherrard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, while Biggsville West Central put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Stark County. The Heat blew past the Rebels 15-0.
Miley Stimpson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Stimpson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Payton Link was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Addie Seitz was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Biggsville West Central pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sherrard, their record is now 6-0.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sherrard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Biggsville West Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .589. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sherrard couldn't quite finish off Biggsville West Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2021 and fell 8-6. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
