This season hasn't been kind to The El Camino Colts, who are still winless after their ninth game. They were dealt a 42-0 loss at the hands of Santa Clara on Saturday. El Camino was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Matthew J. Nguyen had a dynamite game for Santa Clara, rushing for 210 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Jeremiah Karongo also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
El Camino's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Capuchino and 11-2 Sacred Heart Prep (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.3% over those games). As for Santa Clara, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
El Camino will look to defend their home field on Saturday against South San Francisco at 2:00 p.m. South San Francisco will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Santa Clara, they will head out on the road to face off against Wilcox at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilcox presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Santa Clara in California (Wilcox is ranked 117th, while Santa Clara is ranked 771st).
