Phoenix is 8-0 against the Bearcats since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Phoenix Firebirds will be playing at home against the Solvay Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. Solvay took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Phoenix, who comes in off a win.
Last Wednesday, Phoenix narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagles 49-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Phoenix.
Meanwhile, Solvay's game on Wednesday was all tied up 11-11 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 46-25 walloping at the hands of Canastota. Solvay has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Annabelle Stewart, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Solvay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Phoenix's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Solvay, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Phoenix against the Bearcats in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 59-22 victory. With Phoenix ahead 35-3 at the half, the match was all but over already.
