The Batavia Bulldogs will challenge the Northwest Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Batavia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Northwest will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Batavia extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Bulldogs came out on top against New Richmond by a score of 8-3.
Brayden Schmittou was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Patrick, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 matchups. Bryce Eads was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Northwest had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Mt. Healthy with a sharp 12-1 win on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Like Batavia, Northwest also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Havrilla. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Havrilla was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Braden Wisecarver was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ryan Frey, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Northwest's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Batavia, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
Northwest's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Batavia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. It's a different story for Northwest, though, as they've only averaged .313. Will they be able to contain Batavia's hitters?
Batavia came out on top in a nail-biter against Northwest when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
