Iroquois West is 0-5 against Westville since May of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Raiders will be playing at home against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Iroquois West will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Hoopeston on Friday. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Cornjerkers. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Raiders' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Autumn Miller was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits. Miller was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Amelia Scharp was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cameron Bork, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Westville waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Blue Devils 12-2. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by eight runs or more this season.
Like Iroquois West, Westville also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Valangeon. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Valangeon has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, Daylin Zaayer was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Jazmyn Bennett was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Westville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in 16 consecutive games.
Westville pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Iroquois West, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Iroquois West might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Westville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
