The Somerset Academy Losee Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Mojave Rattlers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Somerset Academy Losee comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Somerset Academy Losee challenged Palo Verde on Friday. The Lions fell 35-28 to the Panthers. Despite 65 more yards than the Panthers, the Lions couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Somerset Academy Losee's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Carl 'CJ' Sparks, who rushed for 233 yards while picking up 10.6 yards per carry, and Kieran Daniel, who rushed for 72 yards and three TDs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mojave, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They claimed a resounding 53-0 victory over Pinecrest Academy Cadence. The Rattlers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mojave's defense and their 7.5 sacks. In that department, Deandre Ewings was the leader with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven. Another thorn in Pinecrest Academy Cadence's side was Demico Zamora, who picked up a sack, made five total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 29 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Zamora, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from S'Marion Coleman.
Mojave picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Somerset Academy Losee, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Somerset Academy Losee came up short against Mojave in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 14-10. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
