Kellis gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Independence Patriots 44-0 at home. The Cougars pushed the score to 31-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Patriots had no chance of recovering from.
Kellis had a senior duo take command as Ronald Coty Iii rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on only six carries and Tristan Bacon gained 182 total yards and two touchdowns. Coty Iii got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 84 yards. Another player making a difference was David Bedolla, who picked up 45 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Kellis was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 316 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Kellis' defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged four passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Jason Estrada, Elias Sinsun, and Jaden Peters picked up one apiece. Avery Rodriguez also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making two total tackles and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception.
Kellis will challenge Peoria at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Independence, they will be defending their home-field for the first time this season they go up against Amphitheater at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Independence focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
