The Fredericksburg Christian Eagles pushed their score all the way to 62 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-62 to Eastern Mennonite. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game two weeks ago (55), Fredericksburg Christian still had to take the loss.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christan Smith, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Noah Caesar, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Eastern Mennonite's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Hatter, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Hatter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. William Gardner was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds.
Fredericksburg Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Eastern Mennonite, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
Fredericksburg Christian will head out on the road to take on Seton at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Seton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fredericksburg Christian in Virginia (Seton is ranked 33rd, while Fredericksburg Christian is ranked 178th). As for Eastern Mennonite, they will be playing at home against Hargrave Military Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hargrave Military Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 652 points over their last nine matches.
