The Vero Beach Indians will face off against the Satellite Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Vero Beach sitting on 11 straight wins and Satellite on eight.
On Tuesday, Vero Beach earned an 8-3 victory over Treasure Coast.
Brandon Walker looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Vero Beach got a massive performance out of Jace Romans, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Ashton Wetmiller also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, while Satellite put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Central. Satellite put the hurt on Central with a sharp 6-0 win. The Scorpions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.
Central's batters probably weren't too happy with Asher Allan, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (he gave up two walks). What's more, Allan gave up only zero hits, the fewest he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brady Roberts, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Reiter, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Satellite always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Vero Beach's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.8 runs. As for Satellite, their record is now 9-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Vero Beach has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Satellite struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Vero Beach's way against Satellite in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, as Vero Beach made off with an 11-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vero Beach since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
