Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Willcox

Willcox entered their tilt with St. Augustine Catholic on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Wolves. The Cowboys have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wolves, too.

Lilly Williams and Hattie Macumber made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Williams pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Macumber tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Williams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Williams got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, while Macumber went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Karlie St. Clair was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Janelle Vandermeulen was another key player, earning two RBI, three runs, and two stolen bases.

Willcox hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Willcox's record now sits at 17-6. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Willcox wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 1-0 win against Santa Rita on the 10th. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they have also already played their next matchup, a 17-2 victory against Palo Verde on the 9th.
