Ralston Valley (Arvada, Colo.) saw its 9-point lead dwindle to eight, but still managed to hang on and upset
Pomona (Arvada, Colo.) 30-22 on Saturday.
The Mustangs were up 16-14 at the half after taking the lead on a field goal by
Austin Thompson in the first quarter.
Ralston Valley expanded its lead to nine points entering the fourth quarter. RV scored once in the quarter on a
Spencer Svejcar touchdown run.
The Panthers'
Chris Marquez played well. He ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 10 on the year.
The Mustangs' standout player in the win was Svejcar. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Pomona took, 28-0.
The loss comes after Pomona defeated Legacy 41-7 last week. With the win Ralston Valley extended its winning streak to four games. The loss snapped PHS's 2-game winning streak.
Pomona (5-2) will play a 5A North Metro game against Fairview next week, while Ralston Valley (6-1) will take on Arvada West also in a 5A North Metro game.
