The Rangely Panthers will challenge the Monte Vista Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Rangely is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Rangely made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Meeker, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Cowboys: they've now lost seven in a row.
Bradley Lambros put in work while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Lambros was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Landon Bollinger made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Monte Vista's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Las Animas. Those four runs were actually the fewest the Pirates have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Like Rangely, Monte Vista also got a great game from a two-way player: Landon Sanchez. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Sanchez a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Judah Howe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Howe is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Monte Vista's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Rangely, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rangely has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .527. However, it's not like Monte Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .539. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rangely might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Monte Vista when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
