Basketball Recap: St. Anthony Now 12-2 over Last 14 Games

After losing to Holy Cross the last time they met, St. Anthony decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The stars were shining brightly for the St. Anthony Yellowjackets in a 68-49 win over the Holy Cross Knights on Saturday. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Knights are ranked 738th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Anthony's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Cristan, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 26 points and three steals. The contest was Cristan's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emiliano Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards.

Despite the loss, Holy Cross still got an impressive performance from Aaron Garcia, who went 10 of 20 on his way to 27 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. That was a full 55.1% of Holy Cross' points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Steve Hernandez, who had eight points.

St. Anthony has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 25-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Holy Cross, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-13.

Coincidentally, St. Anthony and Holy Cross will both be playing Central Catholic the next time they take the court. St. Anthony will head out to face Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on December 28th, while Holy Cross will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on December 30th.
