It was a good run, but the Evangel Christian Lightning unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Valiant Cross Academy by a score of 74-72. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Evangel Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Owen Bugnar. Despite the final result, he scored 37 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bugnar has scored all season. Paul Dixon was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Deshawn Hall was a one-man wrecking crew for Valiant Cross Academy as he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of John Cosby, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Evangel Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Valiant Cross Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-4.
Evangel Christian will head out on the road to face off against Edgewood Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valiant Cross Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lee-Scott Academy at 5:00 p.m.
