Box Elder is a perfect 5-0 against Clearfield since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bees will host the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. Box Elder is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Box Elder is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Riverton, who was ranked second at the time (Box Elder was ranked fifth). The Bees took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Silverwolves on Saturday.
Lucy Griffin and Maclee WIllard stepped up to the plate in a big way. Griffin went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while WIllard went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clearfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Syracuse on Friday, sneaking past 12-11. Considering the Falcons' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Teaghan McNabb looked comfortable as she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Brynn Nicholls was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Alexandra Bingham was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Clearfield's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Box Elder, their loss dropped their record down to 19-3.
Clearfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Box Elder has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Clearfield, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Box Elder keep running through batters, or will the Falcons buck the trend?
Everything went Box Elder's way against Clearfield in their previous matchup back in March, as Box Elder made off with a 12-2 victory. Will the Bees repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
