After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lutheran-Northeast, the Plainview Pirates were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison and snuck past 56-53. Given Plainview's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Madison is ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madison lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Griffin Jordan, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Campos, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Madison were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Plainview's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Madison, they bumped their record down to 3-2 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Plainview will square off against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Laurel-Concord-Coleridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. Madison will be home for the holidays to greet Oakland-Craig at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
