Saugus is 9-1 against Hart since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Centurions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 3:15 p.m. Saugus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Saugus is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Moorpark just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Musketeers by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Centurions have suffered since March 6th.
Saugus got a good showing from Hailey Cox, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Cox has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Abby Harter stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Isis Solis, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Highland hit Hart with a four-run third inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Kailyn Dodson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Hart's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Saugus, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Saugus hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Hart struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Saugus was able to grind out a solid victory over Hart in their previous matchup back in March, winning 5-1. Will the Centurions repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
