Geneva hasn't had much luck against Palmyra-Macedon recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will take on the Red Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Geneva needed a bit of extra time to put away Newark. They skirted past the Reds 4-3.
Geneva's win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ben Santos, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those RBI marked the first that Santos has brought in this season.
Geneva was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Palmyra-Macedon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They put the hurt on Midlakes with a sharp 10-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Red Raiders have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Tino LoPresto was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Palmyra-Macedon got a massive performance out of Noah DaPolito, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Camron Quick, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Geneva's record is now 6-11. As for Palmyra-Macedon, their record now sits at 10-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Geneva has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Palmyra-Macedon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Geneva came up short against Palmyra-Macedon when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 7-2. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
