The Paxton Bobcats won the last time they faced the Florala Wildcats, and things went their way on Friday too. Paxton greeted the New Year with with a 44-29 win over Florala. Given Paxton's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 145th in Florida, while Florala is ranked 332nd in Alabama), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Paxton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Destini Chatman out in front who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taylor Phillips, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Paxton's victory bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Florala, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Paxton will head out on the road to face off against Freeport at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Freeport focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday. Florala and Brantley will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
