After flying high against the SkyView Academy Hawks last Thursday, the St. Mary's Academy Wildcats came back down to earth. St. Mary's Academy was dealt a 56-26 loss at the hands of the Pirates on Tuesday. St. Mary's Academy has struggled against the Pirates recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why St. Mary's Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emily Rodriguez. Despite the final result, she scored six points along with 12 rebounds and four steals. Rodriguez hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Isabel Hernandez, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, St. Mary's Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
St. Mary's got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maeve Salveson out in front who scored 13 points along with eight assists and two steals. Salveson hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaela Pedro, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.
St. Mary's Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for St. Mary's, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's Academy will take on the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Mary's, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Colorado Springs Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
