Pasco is a perfect 7-0 against Hudson since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pasco Pirates will take on the Hudson Cobras at 7:00 p.m. Pasco's pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so Hudson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Pasco will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Gulf on Thursday. Pasco blew past Gulf 10-0. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Bryce Mangiaracina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mangiaracina was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Boomer Newton and Jayce Rollins did most of the damage at the plate: Newton scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Rollins scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Yeceil 'JJ' Lisojo was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Pasco always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Hudson came up short against Central on Wednesday, falling 22-7. The Cobras have struggled against the Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Hudson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Gillespie, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Gillespie a new career-high in RBI (two). Owen Wilson also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Hudson's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Pasco, their record is now 5-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pasco has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hudson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Pasco's way against Hudson in their previous matchup back in February, as Pasco made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pasco since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
