Basketball Recap: Kearney Piles Up the Points Against North Platte

Kearney won the last time they faced North Platte and things went their way on Thursday too. The Kearney Bearcats really took it to the North Platte Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up an 81-38 victory. With the Bearcats ahead 47-24 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Kearney's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Webber, who went 6 of 7 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points and three steals. That's the most steals Webber has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Johnson, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points along with seven assists and six boards.

Kearney was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Platte only racked up eight assists.

North Platte's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kalieb Odell, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Dishman, who had four points and six rebounds.

Kearney's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.7 points per game. As for North Platte, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Kearney will head out to take on Lincoln High at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. Kearney has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for North Platte, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-44 loss against Roncalli Catholic on the 3rd.
