The Lake Minneola Hawks will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Zephyrhills Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Lake Minneola didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lake Gibson, but they still walked away with a 78-74 win. Given Lake Minneola's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Lake Gibson is ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake Minneola can attribute much of their success to Brandon Colbert, who scored 16 points along with seven steals and five assists, and Landon Blackwell, who scored 30 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Blackwell has scored at least a third of Lake Minneola's points. Another player making a difference was Alvin Colbert, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Zephyrhills posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 61-21 victory over Pasco.
Lake Minneola pushed their record up to 11-9 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.7 points per game. As for Zephyrhills, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Lake Minneola strolled past Zephyrhills in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 60-43. Will Lake Minneola repeat their success, or does Zephyrhills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
