Baseball Recap: Oakbrook Prep Takes a Loss

Oakbrook Prep extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 15-3-1 in the process. They came up short against the Northside Christian Academy Crusaders, falling 16-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Knights, who until this matchup were averaging 3.84 runs allowed.

As for Northside Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

For Northside Christian Academy's part, Whit Craft and Luke Bohnsack were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Craft pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bohnsack tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Craft got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, while Bohnsack went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Craft is becoming a predictor of Northside Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Cade McNeill and Easton McCutchan did most of the damage at the plate: McNeill went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while McCutchan went 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. McCutchan has become a key player for Northside Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Spotts, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oakbrook Prep will square off against Berea at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Northside Christian Academy, they will challenge Augusta Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
