On Tuesday, the Douglas County Huskies faced the Chaparral Wolverines in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Douglas County fell just short of Chaparral by a score of 65-63. It was the first time this season that Douglas County let down their fans at home.
Douglas County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anthony Nettles, who scored 23 points along with four steals. Nettles is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reilly Guerra, who scored 14 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Douglas County were working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chaparral only posted 12 assists.
Chaparral was led to victory by Gavin Carter and Christian Williams. Carter scored 20 points along with six rebounds, while Williams scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Brodie Mason was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Douglas County's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5. As for Chaparral, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Douglas County will head out on the road to square off against Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Castle View will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Douglas County is ranked 17th). As for Chaparral, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Legend at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Legend is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
