Football Recap: Nathen Gallardo's Menacing Defense Leads Whittier over Pioneer

If Pioneer wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Whittier, they should've done a better job of containing Lucas Sanchez. The Cardinals blew past the Titans 38-14 on Friday with plenty of help from Sanchez, who rushed for 140 yards and one score on only eight carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.

Whittier didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nathen Gallardo. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The victory made it two in a row for Whittier and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.0 points over those games. As for Pioneer, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whittier will face off against Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Cardinals' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Pioneer, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rowland at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
