Ridgeland has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Northwest Rankin Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ridgeland knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully the Cougars like a good challenge.
Last Tuesday, Ridgeland faced the Gators in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went Ridgeland's way against the Gators as the Titans made off with a 77-57 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ridgeland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Phil Nelson, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Nelson has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ebo Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 22 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northwest Rankin had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Oak Grove with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 55-38.
Ridgeland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.7 points per game. As for Northwest Rankin, their win bumped their record up to 8-17.
Ridgeland came up short against the Cougars in their previous matchup back in December of 2020, falling 67-59. Can Ridgeland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
