If The Washington Hatchets were riding high off their 46-7 takedown of the West Vigo Vikings last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Washington was outmatched by Gibson Southern at home and fell 48-14. Washington has struggled against Gibson Southern recently, as their match on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Although Washington took the loss, they still got scores from Cooper Wright and Brody Isza.
Gibson Southern had a senior duo take command as Tanner Boyd threw for 146 yards and three touchdowns and Sean DeLong gained 96 total yards and three touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Washington to a paltry 168 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Gibson Southern's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Brody Klem.
Washington has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Gibson Southern, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Washington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gibson Southern will look to defend their home field on Friday against Vincennes Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. Vincennes Lincoln is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
