It was a good run, but the East Rutherford Cavaliers unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 44-37 to Myers Park. While losing is never fun, East Rutherford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Myers Park is ranked sixth).
Defeat or not, East Rutherford got some senior leadership from Jada Whitesides who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals and Taniyah Cash who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Whitesides hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games.
East Rutherford struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Myers Park to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amani Barner, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Barner continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Jerin Truesdale was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
East Rutherford's loss dropped their record down to 14-2. As for Myers Park, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
East Rutherford will head out on the road to challenge R-S Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Myers Park, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Olympic at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Olympic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday.
