The Aquinas Monarchs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Kearney Catholic by a score of 50-48. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Aquinas of the 48-46 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture last Saturday.
Despite the loss, Aquinas still got an impressive performance from Bryant Stouffer, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stouffer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailer Pohl, who scored six points.
Leading Kearney Catholic to victory were Carson Murphy and Owen Axmann. Murphy scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Axmann scored 18 points along with six rebounds. Jacob Bosshamer was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Aquinas' loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Kearney Catholic, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Aquinas will head out on the road to challenge Grand Island Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Grand Island Central Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Tuesday. As for Kearney Catholic, they will be playing at home against Aurora at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Aurora is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
