The Choctaw County Chargers came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points) and they left with even more momentum. They slipped by Mooreville 62-61. Given Choctaw County's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Mooreville is ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Choctaw County was led to victory by Garrick Alston and Caleb Cunningham. Alston scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Cunningham scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Cunningham hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Treyvionne Woodard, who scored five points along with four steals.
Choctaw County's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Mooreville, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Aberdeen the next time they take the court. Choctaw County will head out to face Aberdeen at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Mooreville will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
