Baseball Game Preview: Center Moriches Red Devils vs. Babylon Panthers

Center Moriches and Babylon are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will welcome the Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Center Moriches sitting on seven straight wins and Babylon on four.

Center Moriches gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Mattituck by a score of 6-3.

Dan Gilroy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rich Roberts was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Luke Rebore Costanzo was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

Meanwhile, Babylon made easy work of Southampton on Friday and carried off a 7-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Center Moriches' win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Babylon, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Center Moriches hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Babylon struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
