Volleyball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Sandburg's Winning Streak

Sandburg dropped their record down to 25-4 on Saturday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell 2-0 to the Downers Grove North Trojans. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Will Ashum paced Sandburg's offense, picking up nine kills. Ashum got some help from Easton Donausky and his 22 assists.

As for Downers Grove North, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 21 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-4 record this season. The victory was nothing new for Downers Grove North as they're now sitting on five straight.

Downers Grove North was led to victory by Ethan Weiner and Jude Caldwell. Weiner had 13 assists and three digs, while Caldwell had seven assists. Weiner is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 13 games he's played.

Coming up, Sandburg will challenge Lincoln-Way West at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Downers Grove North, they will take on Hinsdale Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Red Devils have played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
