Softball Game Preview: Vancleave Bulldogs vs. Gautier Gators

Vancleave has gone a perfect 10-0 against Gautier recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vancleave Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Gautier Gators at 6:30 p.m.

Vancleave came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Pascagoula by a score of 4-2 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since February 17th.

Hadleigh Hall was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Brianna Webster, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gautier). They were the clear victor by a 27-4 margin over Laurel on Friday. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 11 runs or more this season.

Sierra Smith was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kymory Davis, who went 1-for-4 with six RBI and four runs.

Gautier is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 17 runs. This is the second loss in a row for Vancleave and nudges their season record down to 7-11.

Vancleave took their victory against Gautier in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. Will Vancleave repeat their success, or does Gautier have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
