Mt. Pleasant has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Summertown Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Tennessee (Mt. Pleasant is ranked 168th, while the Eagles are ranked 158th).
Even though Lewis County scored an imposing 63 points on Tuesday, Mt. Pleasant still came out on top. Mt. Pleasant took down the Panthers 78-63.
Mt. Pleasant's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Holt, who scored 26 points along with two steals. Holt is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ryan Benderman, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Summertown has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 66-54 to Loretto on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, Summertown had strong showings from Kurt Burleson, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five blocks, and Grayson Burleson, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That was a full 35.2% of Summertown's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lleyton Sherman, who scored three points along with three steals.
Mt. Pleasant has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Summertown, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Mt. Pleasant hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.7 points per game. However, it's not like Summertown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 71.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Mt. Pleasant skirted past the Eagles 75-73 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Does Mt. Pleasant have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
