The Athol Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their ninth straight loss. They suffered a tough 54-29 loss at the hands of Franklin County Tech. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Athol in their matchups with Franklin County Tech: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Athol still got an impressive performance from Anna Duquette, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Duquette has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Bonenfant, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Athol struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Franklin County Tech pulled down 26 offensive rebounds.
Hannah Gilbert continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Franklin County Tech, scoring 13 points along with four steals. Gilbert hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Haleigh Benoit, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Athol's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Franklin County Tech, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.
Athol will head out on the road to challenge Hopkins Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Franklin County Tech, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pioneer Valley Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pioneer Valley Regional has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
