The Englewood Pirates couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by D'Evelyn 79-44 on Tuesday. Englewood lost against D'Evelyn in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 60-43 score last time.
Englewood's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jonah Singer, who scored 15 points along with 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Dominic Dever, who scored 13 points along with 4 steals.
D'Evelyn's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Robby Ziemian led the charge by scoring 17 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Vince Scaturro, who scored 7 points along with 9 assists and 9 rebounds.
Englewood's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for D'Evelyn, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Englewood will head out on the road to face off against Eagle Ridge Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for D'Evelyn, they will be playing at home against Sierra at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
