Skyline is 0-10 against Mead since October of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Falcons will welcome the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Monday, Skyline didn't have quite enough to beat Erie and fell 3-2.
Skyline wouldn't go down easily and took Erie into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking six-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-12, 23-25, 21-25, 15-9.
Meanwhile, Mead came up short against Niwot on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Mavericks have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Mead was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Niwot work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 29-27, 25-14, 18-25, 25-17.
Skyline will have to keep a close watch on Emmy Tecu and Alana Costello, a pair of players who had a big impact on Mead's prior game. Tecu had 11 digs, while Costello had 22 digs and three assists. Tecu has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last three times she's played. Kenidee Nix also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
Skyline's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Mead, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Skyline hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 4.2 blocks per game. However, it's not like Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 blocks. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
