Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Richland Northeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sasha Cebula, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. The game was Cebula's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Latia Ray, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points along with five boards and five steals.
Meanwhile, Camden unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 66-54 to South Pointe. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Stallions are ranked first).
Richland Northeast will need focus on slowing down Jillian Rush, one of several Camden players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards. Rush has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylin Mungo, who posted 16 points and six steals.
Even though they lost, Camden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Richland Northeast's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Camden, their loss ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Richland Northeast has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Camden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Richland Northeast didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Camden when the teams last played back in January of 2016, but they still walked away with a 52-47 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Richland Northeast since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
