4A Region II District 14 recap October 8, 2013
Texas moved up to 175 from 201 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region II District 14. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Natchitoches Central 13-0.
Pine Tree fell to Nacogdoches 45-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Dalvin Manns threw for 167 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 13 yards in the loss.
Pine Tree's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Kenneth Buffin contributed 39 yards. Johnathan Giddings helped Pine Tree's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 58 yards.
Manns put up the best numbers through the air as the Pirates fell to the Dragons. Manns' favorite target this week was Mason Hays, who caught 6 passes for 84 yards.
Pine Tree's Manns and Hays have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Manns has thrown for 1,548 yards this season, while Hays has 29 catches for 712 yards. Willy Ivery from Sulphur Springs leads the league in rushing with 508 yards.
As it stands, the Pirates are in third, while Texas is in first.
Barry Norton's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,466 from 1,713. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 13-0 victory over the Chiefs last week.
