The Fairview Knights will square off against the Horizon Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Fairview couldn't beat Mead on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the fourth inning. The Knights fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 8-7.
Jackson Wier put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Wier was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Wier wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leo Muth, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Jack Espiritu-Niswonger was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Horizon). They put the hurt on Westminster with a sharp 14-2 win on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Hawks with their most commanding win of the season.
Like Fairview, Horizon also got a great game from a two-way player: Parker Aaron. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Aaron a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples and two RBI.
In other batting news, Maxton Sosa and Zacchues Lujan did most of the damage at the plate: Sosa got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Lujan went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Sosa has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brayden Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Horizon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Horizon and bumps their season record up to 8-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Fairview, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-9.
Fairview was able to grind out a solid victory over Horizon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 14-10. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
