It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Waverly Wolverines had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They breezed by Adirondack at home to the tune of 49-8. The win was familiar territory for Waverly who now have ten in a row.
Kolsen Keathley was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Fravel, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Waverly's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Adirondack, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-2.
Waverly will square off against Salamanca at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Salamanca will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Waverly is ranked 26th). Adirondack does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
